Welcome, Alexander [Marina]

Welcome, Alexander
Say hello to the one and only, Alexander the Great!
Alexander. King at age 20, a person who I believe is one of the most accomplished individuals and truly deserves to be called GREAT.1 He was a great man because he portrayed all of these traits:

  • Bravery
  • Courage
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
       And more…

If you were leading an army in the blazing hot heat, on the brink of dehydration, and you finally receive water from your soldiers, (they didn’t get any themselves though) what would you do? I would drink the water, but Alexander refused to.2 According to the “Legend of the Helmet by Lucius Flavius Arrianus:

“Alexander, with a word of thanks for the gift, took the helmet and, in full view of his troops, poured the water on the ground.”

Q: Who does that?
A: A great leader who treats his troops as equals. A leader named Alexander the Great.

Oh yeah, just one more thing: He conquered almost all of the ancient world and spread Greek beliefs and culture throughout.3 2,000,000 square miles (that’s a giant kingdom), now filled with Greek ideas. Don’t believe me? Here’s the story (with a few added comments), to prove that Alexander really deserves to be called

ALEXANDER THE GREAT!!!

First, he developed a huge empire with many cities named Alexandria, and different places in his huge kingdom started to learn about Greek ideas.3 The spread started out small, and got bigger and bigger over time. Somehow he found a way to respect everyone’s beliefs and keep his empire going. That’s pretty hard to do. How can someone say he was not great? In the text History Alive! The Ancient World, it states that:

“ His goal was to bring people of very different cultures together under a single government.”

He did all this, yet people still believe that he doesn’t deserve to be called great (people these days.) C’mon! Even Caesar cried when he saw a statue of Alexander because he accomplished so much at such a young age.1
Hopefully now you see that Alexander truly is the one and only, Alexander The Great!
