Many people say that Alexander the Great was not so great, but he was a leader like no other. He was born in 356 B.C.E. When his father, King Philip of Macedonia was murdered in 336 B.C.E, Alexander took over his father’s kingdom of Macedonia at age 20. He conquered Persia and made his kingdom the most powerful kingdom in the world. Sadly he got sick on a trip and died a month later at age 33 in 323 B.C.E.1

Alexander is great because According to “The legend of the Helmet” by Lucius Flavius Arrianus: “So extraordinary was the effect of this action that the water wasted by Alexander was as good as a drink for every man in the army.” He poured the water on the ground to show that his army that he does not get special treatment because he is the king. He proved that he was loyal to his men and that he is just like everyone else.

Another reason that Alexander is great is According to historian and Greek philosopher Lucius Flavius Arrianus, Alexander was very clever in battle strategy, and he is very smart. He defeated India by the clever strategy on surrounding the elephants and having them turn into a weapon against the Indians. He used strategy to conquer an army bigger and stronger than Alexander’s army.

Alexander is amazing, he conquered 2,000,000 square miles of land, he founded 70 different cities, and he influenced buddhism in India. Also he influenced many other people in the world.2 He was pretty great. Just think of everyone that comes to your mind. How many of those people did such extraordinary things in such a short time. Alexander the great was really great.
