Was Alexander the Great Really Great? [Arnav]

Alexander the great does deserve to be called great. You’re probably wondering,”Who is this guy, and why was he great?”.
Let me tell you.
Once upon a time, there was a Macedonian king named Philip II. He saw that the Greeks kept fighting among themselves, so he said, “You know what? This is my chance.” Maybe not in that way but you get the point. He attacked while they were divided and weak, and brought Greece under his control.1 He also had a son named Alexander, but we call him Alexander the Great. Because he’s great. Well this guy Alexander was even more ambitious and managed to extend his rule from Greece and Macedonia to Western India!1

One reason to why he’s so great is because he actually used his wits in battle. Alexander the Great was battling this guy named Porus. He sent out multiple groups of men in different places to confuse him and eventually managed to box him in along with his elephants.2

Smart.

He then surrounded them and advanced as a phalanx (a Greek battle formation). They either got trampled by their own elephants or managed to escape.
Alexander the Great also respected the cultures and religions of the people he conquered. He did this by adopting some of these practices himself.1 He also started wearing Persian clothing.1 Alexander also demanded that his visitor greet him in the Persian way. This whole plan was for unifying his empire.

Alexander the Great was also great because, let’s face it, he was almost ruler of the whole known world at the time. That’s almost 2,000,000 square miles of land! This reason isn’t because he’s nice or respectful. It’s the sheer amount of success he had during his time as ruler.

Alexander the Great really was great, and you know why. Now you can ask yourself, “Who is this guy, and why is he great?” Now you know the answer.
