Alexander the great was for sure a great man because of how many amazing feats he has completed with how young he was. He took over the Kingdom of Macedonia at 20 when his father was killed 1. Directly after he took over, he started a conquest to the East of Macedonia. He conquered very far east from Persian Lands, through Asia Minor and making his way down the Mediterranean Coast and stopping at Western India 1. He returned to Persian and tried to unite Persia and Macedonia by marrying King Darius’ eldest daughter1. He failed and died soon after but back to the question, Was Alexander the Great actually as great as he was proclaimed to be? Yes, yes he was.
Let’s be honest, the fact that he was able to spread his Greek ideas and incorporate them with other cultures is yet bold, and genius. He was one of the first guys that didn’t think that his culture was THE BEST. He spread his Greek beliefs by making Greekish cities 2. Greek settlers came to these cities and spread the Greek beliefs. The most famous city was named Alexandria. This city was very “Greek”, it had things like a marketplace, a university, a theater and etc2. It became a center of trading and knowledge and was one of the largest libraries in the world. Because Alexander had thought of this idea, Greek ideas has spread far across the Ancient World.
Another thing that I thought was amazing was how invested Alexander was in his army. He wasn’t one of those bad kings who just did nothing, he fought in his army, and he fought well. He was crossing a desert river with his army and everyone wanted water including him. A small party of his found some water and gave it to Alexander in a helmet 3. Alexander gave his word of thanks and took the water, and dumped it right in front of his troops 3. Now, let’s just all take a second to realize how amazing this is. He, being extremely parched, wasted the water to show that all of them that they will bear the burden of being thirsty together.
Now that I have given you some amazing evidence, do you think Alexander is great…….? Of course you do! He was amazing because of how genius and selfless he was. He did so many great things and deserves to be remembered by all. So to make sure YOU remember that Alexander the Great was REALLY great, I’m gonna tell you that Alexander, WAS REALLY GREAT!!!!
