When Alexander was in Tyre, Tyrians were able to hold off Alexander for 9 months since their city was protected by walls and built on a island. So guess what? Alexander built a bridge, and smashed through their walls, you can probably guess what he did to the Tyrians. He killed 7,000, crucified 2,000(crucified means nailed or roped to a pole until they die) and sold 30,000 into slavery1.
The numbers for deaths would have been higher if not the Sidons, Alexander’s allies and Tyre’s rivals came to their senses and smuggled 15,000 Tyrians to safety1, well good for them.
According to the “The Legend of the Hat Band” by Ian Worthington, One day when Alexander was steering a ship, his hat band flew off the ship, Oh no! But one of his loyal crew jumped overboard, and found his hat band, but this is where he made his fatal mistake, he put on the hat band to not get it wet, when he gave Alexander his hat band back he was rewarded with money, and also killed for wearing the “royal” head band. Great choice there, *cough*..Not *cough*.
As for the other reason, Alexander was veeeeeerrrry greedy, he never had enough land, not even Greece could satisfy him, not even the Persian Empire could satisfy him. And this was the purpose of his life, all throughout his life as ruler, he sought out more land, leading to his death. Well actually this worked out pretty nicely, it coming back to Alexander and biting him.
